# GMAT Score Reporting: Deadlines and Free Sends | topin

## The three clocks that applicants often combine

The official sending support page, checked on 5 October 2026, says scores normally become reportable in three to five days, occasionally up to 20\. It says programmes typically receive a submitted score within eight hours. Both are typical timings, not promises that override a school’s deadline or guarantee immediate matching in its application portal.

Your first clock is release: when the official result becomes available in mba.com. The second is the free reporting window: 48 hours from that availability. The third is the school’s rule: when it needs a self-reported result, an official report or both. A plan is incomplete if it records only the test date.

For an invented example, you test on 5 October and your result becomes available at 14:00 on 9 October. The free window then runs for 48 hours from that availability. Do not start it at the end of the exam or at the moment you happen to open the email. The account’s reportable status is the important event.

Read each programme’s current instructions before booking. Some allow self-reporting at submission, but that flexibility is not universal. Our [retake calendar](/articles/gmat-retake-calendar) adds the minimum spacing when a second sitting is part of the plan. Release and receipt need their own buffer even when the retake date is eligible.

## Prepare a programme list before the result appears

Write the exact institution, school, degree, delivery route and intake for each intended recipient. A university may have several business programmes in the sending directory. The correct university name alone does not prove that you selected the correct full-time MBA, executive route or specialised master’s.

__A suggested recipient record; use exact names from the application instructions__
| Field | Example entry | Why it matters |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------ | ----------------------------- |
| Institution | Example University | Avoid similarly named schools |
| School and degree | Business School, full-time MBA | Select the right programme |
| Intake | September 2027 | Match your application |
| Applicant reference | Your programme-issued ID | Support matching if requested |
| Receipt rule | Official report required by deadline | Budget the correct buffer |
| Send status | Pending / submitted / confirmed | Separate request from receipt |

Choose the five free recipients using your real shortlist. Do not use slots on programmes you have ruled out just because the window is short. Conversely, do not delay a necessary send while waiting for an unrelated admissions decision if that delay would consume the free window.

Record any programme-specific code or directory instruction verbatim from the school. If the directory name is unclear, contact admissions early. An improvised choice can be harder to correct after sending. The exam owner’s report page says a sent report cannot be withdrawn from the programme’s access, so checking the recipient before submission is worthwhile.

If two programmes have similar directory names, compare the degree title with the institution’s application instructions instead of choosing the first search match. A business school and its parent university can each appear in results. Keep the exact selected recipient beside the send confirmation so later troubleshooting does not depend on reconstructing which item you clicked.

Use a separate row for each programme even when the deadlines coincide. One may permit self-reporting at submission while another requires direct official delivery. Grouping both under “December applications” can make a report suitable for one appear sufficient for both.

## Submit the report and retain evidence of the request

In mba.com, locate the exam appointment, open View and Send Score, choose Send Score, search for the programme and confirm the recipient selection. The current support instructions describe that flow. Interface wording can change, so use the live account’s prompts and review the selected attempt before the final submission.

Verify the edition and test date as well as the total. The current exam uses a different scale from the classic exam; a saved classic result is not a current result produced by conversion. Our [score converter](/articles/gmat-score-converter) explains historical comparisons, but application fields should contain the score you actually earned.

After submission, retain the confirmation details available in your account. Add the send time and recipient to your record. That confirms you requested delivery; it does not yet confirm that the school has matched the report to your application. A portal showing “awaiting score” may reflect matching delay rather than failure of your send.

If you have a superscore, the school report may include it automatically alongside the single attempt you send. Check [current superscore reporting and school policies](/articles/gmat-superscore-school-policies) before interpreting what the recipient sees. Do not assume that choosing one attempt hides every other piece of score information from the application process.

## Work through a deadline example using conservative assumptions

Suppose an imaginary MBA requires an official report by 15 December 2026\. A test on 12 December leaves only three days before that deadline. Even the usual release range may extend beyond it, so this is a weak plan unless the programme explicitly provides a different submission arrangement.

A 25 November sitting gives 20 days to 15 December. That covers the occasional release allowance only if release takes no longer than that stated allowance and leaves little or no room for delivery and matching. It is more accurate to say “limited buffer” than “guaranteed safe”. An earlier sitting is easier to manage.

Now suppose a different programme allows self-reporting by 15 December and official verification later. A late sitting may be workable under that exact rule, but you still need the result requested at submission. An unofficial result is not a substitute where the instructions explicitly require an official report. Ask the programme when the wording is ambiguous.

These dates are original planning illustrations, not published deadlines for a real school. For a live application, save the official source and time zone alongside the deadline. A date without a time zone can conceal a several-hour difference for applicants in India. The school’s stated deadline controls, rather than your local calendar reminder.

## Respond differently to release, send and matching problems

If the score is not yet available, first check mba.com and the notification email, including spam. Compare the elapsed time with the official release guidance. A result under review may need case-specific support; repeatedly refreshing the recipient directory cannot resolve a result that has not become reportable.

If the result is available but sending fails, document the account state and contact Customer Care using its official route. Avoid creating another account to work around a problem, since that can complicate identity and appointment records. If the free window is relevant, include the availability time and what happened when you attempted the send.

If the send was submitted but the school portal has not updated, review the programme’s matching instructions. Check that your application uses the same identifying details, the recipient is correct and any required reference was supplied. Contact admissions with the test date and send confirmation if the delay threatens the deadline.

Screenshots or printed copies are not official score delivery according to GMAC’s support guidance. They may help a support conversation if requested, but do not assume they fulfil the programme’s official-report requirement. Keep sensitive documents within the relevant support or application channel rather than distributing them unnecessarily.

## Build a reporting routine that survives a busy application week

Before the exam, finish the recipient sheet and mark the first date you will check the account. After the exam, monitor for official availability and act promptly once the result appears. The 48-hour window can overlap a weekend or work deadline; preparing the choices in advance makes the final decision shorter.

If you miss the free window or need more than five recipients, the support page permits Additional Score Reports for a fee. Check the live fee information rather than converting an old price from another country. Missing the free window does not make a valid current result permanently unsendable.

Use preparation evidence before scheduling the sitting. topin’s [free full-length GMAT mock](/gmat/practice-test), marked on the official scale, can help you choose a realistic test date. A hurried official appointment that leaves no reporting buffer can create an application problem even when your reasoning is ready.

Close the loop separately for each programme: exam taken, score reportable, recipient checked, send submitted and receipt or matching confirmed where available. This avoids saying “scores sent” as though it establishes all five events. The record is short, but it gives you an actionable answer when admissions asks where a report is.

## FAQs

When does the free GMAT reporting window start?

It starts when the official score becomes available, and lasts 48 hours. It does not begin on test day.

How many programmes can receive free reports?

Up to five within that 48-hour window. Later sends or additional recipients use the Additional Score Report process.

How long does an official GMAT result take?

Normally three to five days, with occasional cases up to 20\. Plan against the programme’s exact receipt rule.

How quickly do schools receive a submitted score?

GMAC’s support page says typically within eight hours after submission. Application-portal matching is a separate process.

Can I upload a screenshot instead of sending an official report?

A screenshot is not official delivery. Follow the school’s instructions for self-reporting and direct official reports separately.
