# IELTS Results and TRF: Send Scores to Universities | topin

## Track three events instead of one “results date”

The three useful events are score release, access to the official report and completion of the recipient's evidence process. Your online account can show a score before a university has any record of it. Likewise, sending a report can happen before the university matches it to your application. Keep these stages separate so you can identify the real missing action.

IELTS calls its official confirmation the Test Report Form, or TRF; an electronic version is an eTRF. The [official results guide](https://ielts.org/take-a-test/your-results/getting-and-sharing-your-results) explains release and sharing. Use the report that your provider supplies, not an image you create by typing scores into a document. Preserve every identifier and component.

Make a small evidence record with test date, candidate details, TRF number, report access date, recipient account, request date and university status. These are our suggested administrative fields. They help you distinguish “the result has not been released” from “I have not requested delivery” and “the recipient cannot match the report”.

If several people help with applications, nominate one person to maintain this record. They can note actions without sharing account passwords or circulating passport copies unnecessarily. The applicant should retain the official report and confirm the final submission status. A forwarded message saying “done” is less useful than a dated delivery confirmation tied to a named recipient.

## Use the window for your booked product and provider

IELTS's global page gives computer results in 1–5 days. British Council's results page gives 1–2 days for computer and 13 days for computer with Writing on Paper. Do not treat the fastest figure as a promise covering every centre or delivery option. Check the booking-specific window when planning a deadline.

An invented example makes the difference concrete: your document deadline is Monday, and your test is the previous Thursday. Even a Friday score release leaves a separate delivery and matching step. A result within the provider's usual window could still arrive too late for the recipient's requirement. The booking decision needs the entire evidence path.

Work backwards from the university's meaning of “received”. Ask whether it needs an uploaded certificate, provider delivery, verified portal status or another stated form. Then reserve time for each step and a reasonable personal buffer. Buffer days are your planning choice, not an official extension to the deadline or a guarantee of processing speed.

If results are delayed, contact the test centre through its official support route with the test date and candidate identifier. Describe the missing event accurately. Do not ask a university to locate a report that has not yet been released, or ask the provider to clear a university condition it does not control. Route the question to the party responsible for that stage.

## Follow the university’s own submission method

__Recipient workflows checked 5 October 2026__
| Application | Required action | Confirmation to track |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Toronto undergraduate | Test-centre electronic delivery | Scores matched to applicant record |
| Cambridge postgraduate | Applicant certificate upload | University verification and condition status |
| UCL graduate | Official document through application/portal | Evidence accepted for offer condition |

Different universities need different actions. Toronto undergraduate instructions require test-centre electronic delivery; Cambridge postgraduate instructions require the applicant to upload the certificate and reject directly sent IELTS reports. UCL graduate instructions require the official document through its application process and exclude unofficial screenshots. A universal score-sending checklist would therefore fail at least one recipient.

Create one row per application, even when all use the same report. Copy the exact account name or upload category from the current instructions. A receiving account labelled graduate may differ from undergraduate admissions, or one shared account may cover both. Use the published details rather than selecting the first university name that resembles your destination.

For electronic delivery, verify the account name with the recipient if the portal lists several options. For postal delivery, confirm the address and any reference requested. For applicant upload, check the permitted file format and report readability. These are ordinary document-control steps; they do not require a new test when the scores and product are already acceptable.

The [UBC and Toronto comparison](/articles/ielts-ubc-toronto-undergraduate) shows how equal score minimums can still need separate workflows. After taking an action, mark it as requested or uploaded. Upgrade that status to accepted only when the recipient's record confirms the condition or admissions tells you it is complete.

## Global delivery guidance does not settle local fees

IELTS's global guide describes electronic sharing with unlimited recipient organisations, while local providers publish their own request and fee arrangements. IDP India's fee page lists the first five electronic additional reports as free, then INR 350 per additional university, with a five-university daily limit. Read the local service you will actually use.

British Council's sharing page describes up to five free paper copies within two years and free eTRF sends of up to ten organisations at a time, with no overall limit. Because providers publish different allowances, “all IELTS electronic reporting is unlimited and free” is an unsafe budget assumption. The global ability to share electronically and a particular provider's no-charge allowance are different facts.

Build a cost record only from the provider's current fee screen or published list. Record currency, report count, any delivery charge and the checked date. If your plan exceeds a daily request limit, schedule the requests across available days. Do not invent a universal postal charge or a university handling fee that the relevant source does not publish.

Before paying for an extra report, confirm that delivery is required and that the recipient accepts the product. If a course needs your own certificate upload, buying an additional provider delivery may accomplish nothing. If the report is too old or the wrong test type, an extra copy does not repair those defects.

## Diagnose missing scores with a short decision sequence

If the university says it has no result, first check whether you followed its required route. An applicant-uploaded file will not satisfy a provider-delivery requirement merely because the numbers are legible. Conversely, direct delivery does not substitute for a required applicant certificate upload. Use the recipient's instructions as the first diagnostic filter.

Next compare identifiers. Toronto explicitly warns that differing names or dates of birth can prevent matching. Check your application against test registration, then contact the parties about a legitimate discrepancy. Keep the report intact. Editing a certificate to make names look alike creates a different and avoidable evidence problem.

Then inspect the request confirmation: recipient account, report reference and request date. If the wrong account was selected, ask the centre about correcting the delivery. If the correct account was used, send admissions a concise enquiry with the confirmation and applicant reference. Let them state the next step rather than flooding several addresses with repeated copies.

A closed test centre is a separate case. IELTS provides an additional-report request route for that situation within its published service conditions. Use the official route linked from the results page. Do not assume a new centre can immediately reconstruct your history without the necessary identifying details and authorised report process.

## Complete the evidence record before the document deadline

__Suggested evidence audit; no universal processing durations__
| Check | Evidence to keep |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Report | Official TRF or eTRF with all components |
| Identity | Name and date-of-birth match or documented correction |
| Destination | Current receiving account or upload instructions |
| Action | Request or upload confirmation and date |
| Completion | Recipient acceptance or cleared condition |

Use the checklist table as a final review, then keep the original certificate and confirmations in one clearly named folder. A filename such as IELTS-Academic-test-date-TRF is easier to recognise than a series of screenshots. Avoid renaming a report so vaguely that you cannot distinguish an original full test from a later report.

If a required component is missing, pause the delivery plan long enough to choose a usable correction. Check the recipient's retake policy and actual time remaining. The [Enquiry on Results decision guide](/articles/ielts-enquiry-on-results-decision) can help compare review with a new attempt. Neither route should be purchased simply because a deadline is stressful.

Before another paid test, use [topin's free IELTS Academic mock](/ielts/practice-test), marked on the official scale, to diagnose the score problem. It is a preparation estimate, not admissions evidence. A complete diagnostic can show whether another full test needs broad preparation or whether a narrow productive-skill issue deserves focused review.

Finish by inspecting the recipient's status, not only the provider's. If the language condition is still pending, identify the missing event and contact the responsible office before the deadline. Once it is cleared, save that confirmation with the report. The goal is an accepted evidence trail, not merely a set of bands visible in an account.

## FAQs

Is a screenshot an official IELTS certificate?

Use the official TRF or eTRF. Recipients decide the permitted submission route; UCL graduate guidance excludes unofficial screenshots.

Are IELTS computer results always available the next day?

No. IELTS publishes 1–5 days, and local provider windows differ. Confirm your booked product, including handwritten Writing.

Can I send IELTS electronically to every university for free?

Check local fees. Global sharing guidance and provider free-report allowances differ; IDP India publishes an additional-recipient charge.

What IELTS code should I use for Toronto?

Toronto says no IELTS institutional code is required. Use its published IELTS Results Service account details.

Does submitting a delivery request meet the university deadline?

Not necessarily. Check whether the deadline concerns request, receipt, upload or verified evidence, and track the required event.
