# Missing or Delayed SAT Scores: What to Do | topin

On this page

## Name the missing result before trying a fix

Write down where the score is absent: your College Board account, a score-send order or the university portal. These are three different systems. A result available to you but absent from a university checklist is not the same problem as an unreleased result. The first question should establish the missing step, because account matching and report delivery require different evidence and contacts.

Our suggested status note contains test date, registration number, account used, exact displayed message and the time you checked. If the message says pending or unavailable, preserve that wording rather than replacing it with a theory. “My friend has a score” is useful context but does not identify your record. A screenshot of the status can help you describe it, provided it contains no protected test content.

Before escalating, compare your sitting with the [official release calendar](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/scores/score-release-dates). Do not infer a release promise from a previous test date, a social-media post or an overseas friend’s notification. A scheduled release is the right reference point, but it does not establish the cause of every individual delay. Keep your enquiry factual and tied to your registration.

## Use a stage-by-stage decision table

__Our troubleshooting framework; the relevant official policies are linked below__
| Observed situation | First check | Appropriate next contact |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No result before scheduled release | Correct sitting and calendar | Wait for published release guidance unless another problem exists |
| No result after scheduled release | Account details and exact message | College Board score support |
| Known submission failure | Bluebook submission status and staff instructions | College Board or testing staff promptly |
| Result visible; no send order | Recipient requirement and order record | Complete the required official reporting step |
| Order sent; university checklist missing | Institution processing and identity matching | University admissions portal or support |

Use the table as a routing aid, not a diagnosis. It does not prove that a missing result comes from the cause in the same row. For example, an account may show no score because a record is unmatched, but an individual delay can have another explanation. The proper repair follows the confirmed cause. Ask support to identify status before asking for a speculative remedy.

If several issues exist, deal with the earliest missing stage. Ordering another report cannot act on a result that is unavailable, while creating a second account can complicate an identity investigation. Keep the original registration details and use the official account-recovery or support route. Make one clear enquiry containing all relevant facts rather than several contradictory requests that describe the same record differently.

## Check personal information and matching carefully

College Board’s [score-use guidance](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/co-understanding-using-scores-sat-suite-assessments.pdf) describes a matching tool for missing records, including using SAT registration information. Follow the current account interface and instructions. Review personal details before trying the matching step, and record the outcome. If information differs, explain the discrepancy through official support rather than editing multiple profiles without understanding the registration link.

Our recommended comparison puts the registration and account side by side: legal name, date of birth and the identifying information requested by the official workflow. Do not publish these details in a forum. If a family member created the registration, establish which student account was used. Access to a parent’s email message does not itself establish that you are signed into the matching student account.

Imagine Meera used one email for preparation and another account for registration. She sees no result in the preparation account. The useful next action is to identify and access the registration account, not to assume her test was cancelled. This is an illustrative account scenario. If she cannot recover access, she should ask official support for the appropriate account-resolution process and keep the registration number ready.

## Treat answer submission as an urgent separate issue

College Board’s [SAT testing rules](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/testing-rules/sat) give until 11:59 p.m. local time the next day to reconnect and submit when lack of connection prevents submission at the end. If you know submission failed, follow the recovery instructions promptly. Do not wait until score-release day to investigate a known upload problem; that can be far beyond the stated recovery period.

Our suggested incident record states when the test ended, the submission message, any staff assistance and whether confirmation was later seen. Keep it factual and exclude actual exam questions. If you followed instructions but remain uncertain, contact support with those details. A device reconnecting to Wi-Fi does not by itself prove that the answer submission completed; seek the relevant status confirmation.

For preparation before a future sitting, use the [Bluebook device checklist](/articles/sat-bluebook-device-setup). Readiness work cannot repair a past missing result, but it can clarify whether the same practical failure remains unresolved. Separate the score enquiry from the next-device plan so neither is mistaken for the other. College Board must establish the official record’s status; a preparation provider cannot inspect or release it.

## Send a support enquiry that can be answered

Use College Board’s [SAT contact page](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/contact-us) for the current channel and contact details. Provide your registration number, sitting, account details requested through that channel, exact status and relevant submission or incident information. Ask a specific question such as whether the record is awaiting release or needs account matching. Do not ask support to validate a theory formed from other candidates’ results.

Our suggested message is: “I took SAT Weekend on \[date\], registration \[number\]. In the registration account, the score page shows \[exact message\]. I have checked \[relevant steps\]. Please confirm the record’s status and the next action required.” Add an application deadline only if it matters, and ask whether a case reference is available. This gives the recipient a traceable record and a defined request.

If you experienced a test-day problem, College Board has a separate complaint process and deadlines. Its contact page generally requires reports by 11:59 p.m. ET on the fourth weekday after the administration. Check the current wording for your issue. Do not confuse reporting an incident, voluntarily cancelling a score and requesting a status update: those actions have different consequences and should be chosen deliberately.

## Investigate an unmatched university report with the recipient

If the official result is visible and the score order was sent, use the [score-sending guide](/articles/sat-score-sending-deadlines) to distinguish delivery from matching. Ask the institution about its normal update interval, then whether the report has arrived but remains unmatched. College Board’s sending confirmation and the university’s application checklist establish different events. Reordering can add cost while leaving the same matching issue unresolved.

McGill’s US-applicant page describes personal-information discrepancies as a reason electronic results may fail to match and directs applicants to its portal support. That is a concrete institutional example, not a universal explanation of every delay. Use your own recipient’s prescribed channel. Include application number, legal name, test date and verified report recipient information, supplying additional sensitive details only where the secure process requests them.

If an admissions deadline is close, ask the university what temporary evidence or later receipt it permits for your application. Do not promise that an extension will be granted. A status screenshot may explain a delay, but it is not necessarily an accepted official report. Save the written response and follow its instructions precisely, keeping any provisional step distinct from the final reporting requirement.

## Protect the application plan without inventing a release date

Do not infer your score from the difficulty of the second module or a friend’s result while waiting. Nor can a preparation calculator determine what is in an unreleased official record. The useful work is administrative: keep the support case, notify relevant recipients through their permitted channels and identify the next date or document decision that actually depends on the missing result.

[topin’s free SAT mock](/sat/practice-test), marked on the official scale, can help plan a possible retake if you still need one. It cannot replace an official SAT result or establish why a previous result is absent. Use the [error-log guide](/articles/sat-error-log-score-plateau) for preparation evidence, and keep that activity separate from the ongoing College Board status enquiry.

Finish each follow-up with a dated status and next action: awaiting the provider’s stated response, matching information supplied, report received or additional evidence requested. Avoid inventing a new expected release date unless College Board supplies one. Once the result appears, verify that required score sends are complete. Resolution means the correct recipient has the required record, not merely that an email says the enquiry was received.

## FAQs

Why is my SAT score missing when my friend has theirs?

The difference does not identify the cause. Check your exact sitting, account and displayed status, then ask College Board about your own record.

Will another score-send order fix an unreleased result?

No. First establish why the official result is unavailable. Reporting and scoring are separate stages.

Should I create a new College Board account?

Use the official matching, recovery or support workflow for the registration account. Do not create duplicate accounts as a speculative fix.

What if Bluebook did not submit my answers?

Follow the official recovery instructions immediately. The testing rules state a next-day local-time deadline for connection-related submission failure.

Can topin recover my official score?

No. College Board controls official SAT records. topin practice results can help preparation but cannot release, match or replace an official result.
