# SAT for NUS: CBSE, ISC and State-Board Routes | topin

## Check the qualification category and the year together

Begin with NUS’s [international qualifications directory](https://nus.edu.sg/oam/admissions/international-qualifications-for-foreigners/admission-requirements). Select the qualification you will present, then read its dated admission table. NUS has separate Indian Standard 12 pages for CBSE/ISC and state/other boards. An applicant’s nationality does not eliminate that distinction. Treat the board name as part of the requirement, not a minor detail in a generic “Indian student” query.

At our 5 October 2026 check, the linked Indian pages refer to the completed 2026 application cycle, including its closing date and final-result instructions. That is usable evidence of the published route distinction, but it is not a confirmed 2027 deadline. Do not carry a 2026 date, such as the 17 May 2026 CBSE result-update deadline, into 2027 without a new official announcement. Recheck the live page for the intended entry year.

Our suggested source note records page title, board category, year shown and date checked. If the intended cycle has not been published, label the schedule unresolved and ask admissions about the forthcoming requirements. You can still prepare academically while waiting, but a paid test booking should be justified by the current requirements for the application you actually intend to submit.

## CBSE/ISC and state boards have different published testing rules

__NUS’s published 2026 qualification pages, checked 5 October 2026; future-cycle rules require recheck__
| Qualification category | Standardised-test entry in published table | Practical implication |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Indian Standard 12: CBSE/ISC | Not required | Prioritise board results and programme prerequisites |
| Indian Standard 12: state/other boards | Required | Read the separate accepted test combinations |
| Mixed or unclear qualification | Needs category clarification | Ask NUS using the exact credential and board |
| Another curriculum studied in India | Use that qualification category | Do not choose the Indian-board table from citizenship alone |

The [CBSE/ISC page](https://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/admissions/international-qualifications-for-foreigners/international-qualifications/indian-standard-12-cbse-and-isc) and [state-board page](https://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/admissions/international-qualifications-for-foreigners/international-qualifications/indian-standard-12-state-and-other-boards) also distinguish completed school results from results due after the application closing date. Read programme eligibility and final-result instructions for the applicable column. Testing requirements are only one part of that table.

Imagine two classmates at different Indian boards with the same SAT total. One is following the published CBSE route; the other follows the published state-board route. Their required next actions can differ: the second needs to inspect the additional test combination, while the first should not assume SAT preparation replaces board priorities. This illustrates qualification classification, not an admission prediction for either student.

## Where standardised tests are required, SAT is paired with APs

NUS’s [standardised-test document](https://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/docs/default-source/default-document-library/standardised%5Ftest.pdf), updated December 2025, lists three combinations: at least five AP courses; ACT with Writing plus at least three AP courses; or SAT plus at least three AP courses. It lists a minimum of 3 in each accepted AP examination, with AP Calculus BC compulsory except for Law and relevant programme prerequisites still applying.

For the SAT combination, the document specifies Reading and Writing at least 600 and Math at least 650 from one sitting, with five-year validity. Those are minimum consideration requirements, not a competitive target or admission guarantee. Check the accepted AP subject list and all notes. A total above 1250 does not alone establish that both section requirements or the accompanying AP requirement are satisfied.

Consider a hypothetical 1300 composed of 580 Reading and Writing and 720 Math. Its total exceeds the sum of the stated minima, but the Reading and Writing component falls short. Another student with 610 and 660 satisfies the stated SAT section minima yet still needs the qualifying AP combination and school evidence. These arithmetic examples show why a total-score shortcut is not a complete eligibility check.

## Choose supplementary subjects from programme prerequisites

Open the [NUS programme prerequisite page](https://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/admissions/programme-prerequisites) for the intended programme and qualification route. Use it to determine subject suitability before choosing AP examinations. A list of convenient subjects may not establish the preparation required for the degree. The broad standardised-test document and the programme-specific prerequisites need to be read together.

Our subject-planning worksheet contains programme, required subject, equivalent examination, current preparation and availability. If a requirement is unclear for your school qualification, ask admissions to identify the acceptable equivalent. Do not assume that SAT Math substitutes for a named advanced subject simply because both involve mathematics. They provide different evidence, and the published combination treats them as separate components.

If you are preparing for Indian entrance examinations too, use the [SAT versus JEE guide](/articles/sat-vs-jee) to compare study demands, then return to NUS’s actual route. The published Indian pages say JEE Main/Advanced is not required for those routes. That statement does not mean board marks, additional examinations or subject prerequisites can be omitted. Keep each requirement as a separate completed evidence item.

## Plan final-result updates and official reporting separately

The published Indian qualification pages contain final-result update instructions and date-specific conditions. Treat these as administrative obligations alongside the academic requirement. A pending board result, an achieved SAT and a planned AP examination have different statuses. Record each accurately. Do not enter an expected result as though it is already achieved or assume all documents can be submitted at one late point.

The standardised-test document directs official SAT and AP scores to NUS through College Board, using institution code 3720, as well as score-report uploads in the Applicant Portal. Follow the currently applicable cycle instructions and deadlines. An uploaded copy and agency delivery are distinct steps; completing one should not silently mark both complete. The document warns that missing relevant reports can leave an application incomplete.

Use the [SAT sending-deadline guide](/articles/sat-score-sending-deadlines) to understand the reporting process, then use NUS’s specific receipt requirements. Our recommended tracker has result release date, agency order, portal upload and completion status. If planned AP results are released after ordinary closing dates, read the explicit cycle exception or ask admissions. Do not create your own assumed exception from another qualification category.

## Set a preparation target without inventing a competitive cutoff

Minimum testing requirements describe admissibility for consideration; they do not provide a universal admitted-student target for every programme. This article therefore does not claim that 1400, 1500 or any other total guarantees a particular NUS degree. If NUS does not publish a programme-specific SAT distribution for your route, label that evidence unavailable. Applicant anecdotes cannot turn an uncertain competitive picture into an official cutoff.

Our suggested goal has two layers: complete the published qualifying combination and improve the weaknesses shown by fresh timed practice. If section balance is the immediate problem, target that skill rather than collecting extra totals. If the missing element is AP Calculus BC or a school prerequisite, another SAT sitting does not solve it. Allocate effort to the actual unresolved component of the application.

[topin’s free SAT mock](/sat/practice-test), marked on the official scale, can help identify SAT skill gaps. It is a preparation estimate, not an NUS-reportable official score. Use the [Math module pacing guide](/articles/sat-math-module-pacing) if completion under time is the problem. topin uses its own graphing calculator, so practise official Bluebook navigation separately before the official sitting.

## Use a board-specific action plan before registering again

For the published CBSE/ISC route, first verify the intended cycle and programme, then focus on school performance and any specific prerequisites. Take the SAT if another application requires it or NUS’s current instructions give you a reason, not because a generic Singapore guide says all Indian students need it. Optional extra evidence should not crowd out a mandatory academic condition.

For the published state-board route, verify the current additional-testing combination, accepted AP subjects, section minima and reporting deadlines before deciding which examinations to take. Ensure those exams can be completed and documented in time. If a missing subject or result-release schedule makes the combination unrealistic, ask admissions about the situation rather than presenting an incomplete set as a valid application route.

For a mixed or unfamiliar credential, obtain written qualification advice and keep the response with your plan. Compare the [Canadian curriculum guide](/articles/sat-canada-curriculum-requirements) if your list spans countries: the role of the same SAT result can change by institution. Finish with an application checklist grounded in your board and programme, explicitly marking which future-cycle details still need confirmation.

## FAQs

Does NUS require SAT for CBSE and ISC applicants?

Its published 2026 CBSE/ISC table lists standardised tests as not required. Confirm the intended future cycle before relying on that rule.

Is SAT alone sufficient for the published NUS state-board route?

No. The listed SAT combination includes at least three qualifying AP examinations. Read the accepted subjects and programme prerequisites.

What SAT section minima does the NUS document list?

Reading and Writing 600 and Math 650 from one sitting. These are consideration minima within the relevant qualification combination.

Can I superscore for the listed SAT requirement?

The published NUS document requires the sections from one sitting. Do not construct a total from separate dates.

Are the linked 2026 dates confirmed for 2027?

No. The pages still show the earlier cycle at this check. Recheck the intended cycle and obtain admissions clarification for unpublished details.
