# TOEFL Fees in India 2026: Build a Real Budget | topin

## What the official price pages actually show

The live ETS India page lists registration at ₹15,729, rescheduling at ₹5,000 and one Speaking or Writing review at ₹6,694.92\. Its tax footnote describes inclusive pricing, but the extra-report row reads ₹2,000 (50%), without explaining that percentage. We cannot establish a dependable final extra-report price from that row alone. These are the figures retrieved from the page today, not a quote for every booking.

The global score-sending page still says US$25 for an additional report, while the dedicated global fee page says US$29\. Do not silently choose the lower value. When estimating a dollar-priced order, use US$29 as a conservative planning reference and check the displayed charge. A regional listing is also not a currency conversion of the global table. The global table also notes that its dollar prices exclude VAT and other applicable taxes, and it now lists an Express Scoring service at US$129 that the India page does not show.

Search results may retain an older ₹16,900 figure even when opening the live regional page returns a different price. Save the final order breakdown, date and appointment details. If the checkout disagrees with the public page, ask ETS to explain the charge before completing an order you cannot afford. No promotional discount is included in the calculations below.

## Build the budget with variables, then fill the quote

Use this equation: total budget = appointment charge + extra reports + travel + optional accommodation + contingency. Keep preparation spending separate so a test-fee comparison does not disguise a much larger bundle. If a friend paid less, compare the date, country, delivery mode, tax treatment and voucher conditions before assuming your price is wrong.

Let F be your confirmed appointment charge, A the confirmed price per additional recipient, T travel and H a hotel if needed. For seven applications with four eligible preselected recipients, the initial estimate is F + 3A + T + H. For three applications with all three selected within the free-report deadline, it is F + T + H. This is arithmetic, not a promise that every university wants a report immediately.

For a global dollar-priced reporting example, three reports at the current dedicated-page listing of US$29 total US$87; seven total US$203, before any applicable tax. Do not convert those amounts into rupees using a rate copied from an old blog. Your payment provider may use its own settlement rate or charge, so record the actual debit.

Give the contingency a job. It might cover an overnight stay if the centre is far away or another report after the shortlist changes. It should not be an unexplained percentage that makes every estimate look scientific. Write the underlying possibility and amount beside it, then remove it when that uncertainty is resolved.

## Decide whether the four included reports are useful

ETS includes up to four official reports to recipients chosen before the test. Its sending page sets the change deadline at 10 p.m. local test-centre time on the preceding day. Selecting a recipient also removes eligibility for a Speaking or Writing score review. Therefore, the free-report decision is a trade-off involving your shortlist and review options, not simply a coupon to redeem.

If your programmes are fixed and you are happy for those institutions to receive this sitting, selecting them can reduce later charges. If you are still deciding between courses, do not allocate reports to random universities merely because four are available. First check whether a programme requires official reports at application or permits self-reporting for initial review.

Suppose your shortlist has two confirmed applications and three possibilities. Allocate only the two confirmed recipients if their reporting requirements support that choice. Keep the remaining names in a separate list until you have checked the school code, exact graduate division and accepted test mode. A wrong recipient can be more expensive than an unused allowance.

Sending, receiving and matching a report are separate events; a payment receipt does not prove the university has matched your result to your application.

## Reschedule, cancel or keep the appointment?

ETS general policy requires rescheduling or cancellation at least four full days before the test; its Saturday example gives Tuesday as the deadline. The India cancellation terms describe a 50% refund of the original test fee when cancellation meets that deadline. They exclude other products and service fees from that refund. Confirm the terms attached to your own appointment.

Compare choices using the actual quote. If F is ₹15,729 and the applicable rescheduling charge is ₹5,000, timely cancellation followed by a new appointment at the same F costs half the original fee plus the new fee: ₹23,593.50 across both bookings. Keeping the original payment and paying ₹5,000 to move it totals ₹20,729\. Under those assumptions, rescheduling costs ₹2,864.50 less.

That example does not prove moving is always better. A new fee, unavailable dates, changed travel costs or a decision to stop applying can change the answer. If you cancel and do not rebook, the calculation is simply the unrecovered half of F. Ask which choice solves your real scheduling problem before comparing totals.

Do not miss the deadline while waiting for a perfect readiness result. Put a decision reminder earlier in the week, review the [retake framework](/articles/toefl-retake-decision-plan) and act through the authorised booking route. A message to an adviser is not confirmation that ETS has changed your appointment.

## Reduce avoidable spending before buying preparation

Check the test is accepted by every intended programme before comparing prices. Admission requirements can specify the test, delivery mode and test-date window. An inexpensive appointment that cannot be used for your application creates another full booking cost. Before paying for a course, list the missing service in one sentence: I need feedback on email task coverage, or I need current-format timed Reading practice. Then check whether an existing free official sample and focused review can address it. A larger package is useful only when its contents fill the identified gap and fit your remaining time.

For centre bookings, calculate transport from your real address at the appointment time. A cheaper appointment in another city may require a hotel, lost work time and extra travel. Home Edition can remove travel but requires a suitable room and equipment; do not assume it is automatically cheaper once those needs are included.

## Make the payment record easy to audit

Before payment, check the account name, test product, appointment date, location or Home Edition mode, currency and total. Record which add-ons you selected deliberately. If the page bundles preparation with registration, compare the total against the appointment-only option before treating every line as mandatory.

* Save the order confirmation and itemised receipt in the same application folder.
* Record each score recipient, institution code and report order date.
* Mark the change deadline in the appointment’s stated time zone.
* Keep a separate line for travel and any later retake.
* Recheck fee listings before a later order; today’s estimate is not a locked price.

If a payment appears pending, check whether an appointment was actually created before paying again. Use the account confirmation and bank record together when contacting support. Share order identifiers rather than complete card information. Your goal is a confirmed usable appointment, not merely a successful debit notification.

When the booking is complete, replace estimates with actual amounts and keep the remaining reporting allowance visible. This takes a few minutes and makes the next decision easier: whether another report, a date change or a second attempt still fits the application budget.

The regional page retrieved on 5 October 2026 lists ₹15,729\. Other ETS pages contain conflicting service figures, so confirm the actual final appointment charge, currency and taxes in your own checkout.

Are four score reports included?

Yes, ETS includes up to four recipients selected before the stated deadline. Choosing recipients also prevents a Speaking or Writing score review, so decide after checking your shortlist and review needs.

Is an extra report US$25 or US$29?

The sending page says US$25 while the dedicated global fee page says US$29\. We flag that discrepancy and use US$29 for dollar-based planning examples; the payable quote needs confirmation.

Can I get all my money back if I cancel?
