# Best Free GRE Practice Tests in 2026 (Full-Length) | topin

GRE guidesBest free GRE practice tests

## Start with the official ETS tests

ETS, which writes the GRE, offers two free POWERPREP tests after you create an account. Test 1 is untimed and shows correct answers but no Verbal or Quant scores; Test 2 is timed and scored. Both include sample Analytical Writing essays with rater commentary, but your own essay isn't scored. ETS also sells three POWERPREP PLUS tests at $44.95 each.

Because they are written by the test maker, the official tests are the best guide to real question style. Save the timed test for when you have studied a while, so its score tells you something.

## How to get the most from a free test

* Take it in one sitting, timed, at the time of day you'll sit the real test.
* Write the essay too. Skipping it makes the rest of the test feel easier than it will on the day.
* Afterwards, sort every wrong answer by question type, not just by section. That tells you what to practise.
* Space your free tests out: one near the start to find your level, the official timed one closer to test day.

Our free GRE mock marks your Issue essay as well as Verbal and Quant, then links each weak question type to a guide such as Text Completion or Quantitative Comparison.

## FAQs

Are the free ETS GRE practice tests accurate?

They are written by ETS, which writes the real GRE, so they are the closest to real question style. Only POWERPREP Test 2 is timed and gives Verbal and Quant scores.

How many free GRE practice tests should I take?

Two to four spread across your preparation works well: one early to find your level, then one or two closer to test day. Review each one fully before taking the next.

Do free GRE practice tests score the essay?

The official POWERPREP tests show sample essays with rater commentary but don't score yours. Some prep companies' free tests, including ours, mark your essay.
