College Board percentiles for all recent SAT test takers.

## How the estimate works

The digital SAT is adaptive by module. Module 1 of each section is a mix of easy, medium and hard questions, and your result decides whether module 2 is harder or easier. College Board scores the test with item response theory and does not publish a raw-to-scaled table, so this calculator uses our estimates, built from College Board's practice-test scales, for each route.

* Reading and Writing, harder route, 44 of 54 correct: about 680
* Reading and Writing, easier route, 44 of 54 correct: about 550
* Math, harder route, 36 of 44 correct: about 700
* Math, easier route, all 44 correct: about 650, the easier route's ceiling

The same number of correct answers is worth more on the harder route, which is why accuracy in module 1 matters so much.

## SAT score questions

How accurate is this SAT score calculator?

It is an estimate. The digital SAT is scored with item response theory, so your real score depends on which questions you got right and how hard they were, not only on how many. College Board publishes no raw-to-scaled table for the adaptive test, so this uses estimates built from its practice-test scales. Expect your real score to differ by a few tens of points.

How do I know whether I got the harder or easier module 2?

Bluebook does not say during the test. If module 2 felt clearly harder than module 1, you were probably on the harder route. In Bluebook practice tests, a section score clearly above about 650 almost certainly means the harder route.

Why does the easier module 2 cap my score?

The easier module has fewer hard questions, and under item response theory, getting easier questions right shows less ability. College Board does not publish the ceiling; prep teachers estimate it at around 600 to 650 per section, which is what this calculator uses.

Do the unscored questions count here?

Each real module has two unscored pretest questions you cannot identify. This calculator, like our mocks, counts all 54 Reading and Writing and 44 Math questions.

What percentile is my SAT score?

The percentiles shown are College Board's figures for all recent SAT test takers: the share who scored at or below each score. A 1200 total is around the 75th percentile and 1400 around the 93rd.
