## How it works

Two people talk about something practical: a room booking, a lost card, a change of plan. After the conversation you answer two questions, usually about why they are talking, a key detail, or what one of them will do next.

## Worked example

You hear. Man: "Hi, I booked study room 4 for two o'clock, but there's already a group in there." Woman: "Let me check. Ah, your booking is for tomorrow at two, not today." Man: "Oh no. We've got a presentation to practise this afternoon." Woman: "Room 7 is free until four, but it doesn't have a screen." Man: "That's fine, we can use a laptop. I'll take it." Question: What will the man probably do next?

1. AAsk the group to leave room 4
2. BUse room 7 for his group's practice
3. CChange his booking to tomorrow
4. DBorrow a screen from the library desk
Show the answer

Use room 7 for his group's practice

The man ends with "I'll take it", accepting room 7\. His booking is already for tomorrow, so he does not need to change it, and he says a laptop is enough, so he does not need a screen.

## A method for Listen to a Conversation

1. 1
### Note the problem in the first lines
Conversations usually open with the reason for talking. The first question often asks about it, so write it down in two or three words.
2. 2
### Track who says what
Use a simple M and W, or A and B, down the page. Many wrong options give one speaker's idea to the other.
3. 3
### Listen for changes of plan
Words such as "actually", "but" and "in that case" signal a new decision. The final plan, not the first one, is usually what the question asks about.
4. 4
### Catch the ending
Next-step questions are answered in the last turn or two. Keep listening closely until the audio stops.

## Traps to avoid

* Options that describe the first suggestion rather than the one the speakers settle on.
* Details that were mentioned but belong to the other speaker.
* Options that sound helpful in general but were not discussed.
* Missing the purpose because the opening lines went by while you were still reading.
